José Maria Eça de Queiroz, was born in Vila do Conde, in 1845, lived in Aveiro, Coimbra and Paris, but was inspired by the property inherited by his wife, in Tormes (Douro Valley), to write some novels. In this site is currently located the foundation with his name. It's this visit that Outros Tempos suggests to better get to know this writer. The Foundation holds a vast and rich collection of the writer, including photographs, personal goods and several documents.


Eça de Queiroz was the author of novels of recognized importance, as "Os Maias" and "O Crime do Padre Amaro". The latter is considered by many, the best Portuguese realist novel of the 19th century.
Twenty-fifth of November, date of birth, and sixteenth August, date of death of the author, are the most advisable dates to evoke him.
